Japanese group invest in Gafsa

Tunis, December 13, 2008- Yasaki, one of
the leading cable and wire groups which dominates 35%
of the world’s cable and wire market, will open a major plant in
the southern town of Gafsa, located some 350 kilometres
from the capital.

Yasaki, which will also open a plant in le Kef, in western
Tunisia in 2009, is tabling on the region’s
competitiveness, in terms of human potential
and infrastructure.
The project which will be operational in 2009, will
be carried out in two parts.
The first part concerns the direct investment by the group
of 43 million dinars in order to set up a 23,000 square meter plant
which will generate some 3000 jobs, including 500 destined to
university diploma holders.

A joint Tunisian Japanese team is currently actively preparing
the launch of the plant.
The second component is related to a partnership
with Tunisian, French, and German promoters which
will lead to the setting up of 5 sub
contracting companies which will operate f
or the Japanese group.
