AS Kasserine Takes A Big Step Towards Relegation Safety

Three wins in a row are all it has taken for AS Kasserine to go from a team that was surely facing the drop to one that has a good chance of remaining in Tunisia’s
first division. The resurgent side has seen their positive spell coincide with
stumbles by others in the same position as them.
The team came into yesterday’s match against relegation rivals Jendouba Sport
knowing that anything less than a victory would almost certainly condemn them
to a return to the second division from which they were promoted last year.
The match was played in their home stadium against a side that has experienced a
tumultuous training camp that was characterized by pay disputes and player
walkouts. In fact, many Jendouba players didn’t even make the trip and were
replaced at the last minute by elements from the reserve side.
Kasserine managed to take advantage of their opponent’s disorganization but it was a nervy affair as it took them until the 72nd to take the lead through
a Mohamed Lahkim penalty kick which was awarded by the Moroccan referee.
Khaled Ben Sassi’s side are not home free yet and must beat ES Hammam Sousse if they want to be sure of maintain their division one stature but they will be
thrilled to have their destiny in their own hands.
Meanwhile,the table does not look encouraging for AS Marsa and Jendouba supporters who must each hope for slipups from EGS Gafsa and Kasserine to see their teams escape relegation.
